Engineering For Kids
IT’S ELECTRIC! ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING
From light bulbs to smart phones, electricity powers the world around us. In this week long program, we will discuss how electricity works. Over the course of the week, we will create our own functioning magnets, circuits, and even a wind turbine!
ELECTRONIC GAME DESIGN, PLATFORM GAMES
Papa’s Pizzeria is the busiest it has ever been. In Electronic Game Design: Pizza Delivery, we will create our own version of a platform game that will require players to collect ingredients, make pizza and serve all of the hungry customers. We will use the Engineering Design Process to create a storyboard to outline the rules of play and characters for our game. Then we will use Clickteam Fusion 2.5 to bring our storyboard to life with programming. At the end of the camp, everyone takes home a working Windows-compatible game!
MASTER MACHINES! MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
During the Mechanical Engineering unit, students use the Engineering Design Process to design, create, test, and improve a variety of machines and mechanical systems. Students learn basics of energy, traction, aerodynamics, and durability while constructing roller coasters, eggstreme defense vehicles, and more!
SURVIVOR WEEK
Welcome to Survivor: Engineer’s Cove! Students in this camp will find themselves stranded on an abandoned island filled with perilous obstacles-dark caves, wild animals, cold temperatures, little food, and separation from the comforts of home. They will work collaboratively with their tribe members to compete against other tribes in specific engineering-related projects aimed at trying to survive the harsh island conditions and escape to their freedom. The tribe with the most points at the end of the week will claim the honor of Survivor: Engineer’s Cove winner.
OUT OF THIS WORLD ENGINEERING WEEK
Is mankind ready to inhabit the moon? With a little help from Engineering for Kids students, humans will be prepared to take up residence by the end of the week! Students will collaborate with their Space State teams to create the safest and most effective community on the moon. Which team will earn enough Astro-Points to be declared the winner?
SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (SCRATCH)
What’s more fun than playing an interactive video game? Writing one! Video sensing allows students to design and program their own video games. In this Scratch program, students work together to create their own games, art and musical instruments while exploring coding foundations. Get up and get moving with Engineering for Kids and Scratch: Video Sensing!
URBAN INNOVATIONS WITH MINECRAFT
Design, create and make your very own city come alive using Minecraft! In this camp, kids will explore a variety of themes centered around scientific, sustainable, innovative, and futuristic city planning and design. Kids will immerse themselves in Minecraft while applying the Engineering for Kids design process to create a model of their very own, futuristic, sustainable city. On the last day, students will learn how to pitch their ideas and launch their designs to a larger audience to participate in an EFK global design competition!
