The Town of Apex provides electric, water, sewer, garbage, recycling, yard waste, area light services to most locations inside our town limits. However, there are a few subdivisions that do not have electric service with the Town, such as Waterford Green, Beckett Crossing, Carriage Downs and Sunset Hills. The Town of Apex also provides electric service to some Cary locations. If you have questions about which utility services the Town provides to your home or business contact the Utilities and Finance Department at (919) 362-8676.

A Utility Application must be filled out for each location you wish to have utility services connected to. You can obtain a utility application by:

• Submitting an online Utility Application. 
• Calling (919) 362-8676 to request a faxed or mailed Utility Application form.
• Come by our office Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm at 73 Hunter Street to fill out a Utility Application in person.

Residential

Depending on your credit history a deposit may be required. The standard residential deposit is $200.00 which includes all utility services. For residential water only customers the deposit is $50.00. Once a utility application has been submitted we check the applicant’s credit history. If the applicant’s credit history meets our requirements the deposit is waived. If the applicant’s credit history warrants the need for a deposit, the deposit must be paid in full before utility services are connected.

Commercial

Commercial deposits are based on a two month average bill for the location. Upon review, a letter of credit from a previous electric utility showing 12 months with no more than 2 late payments may waive the deposit requirements. The letter of credit must be in the exact name, social security number or federal ID of the commercial applicant. A Surety Bond for the amount of the deposit may be substituted for a cash deposit.

Yes, the Town of Apex has a leak adjustment policy to help customer with major leaks. A copy of your plumber's bill showing proof that repairs have been made should be submitted to the Utilities and Finance Department at PO Box 250, Apex, NC 27502. The Town will adjust up to two month’s billing for leaks that are more than 50% of the customer’s average water bill. Adjustments are applied as credits to the utility account.

Report the missed pickup immediately by calling (919) 362-8676. We can usually arrange to have your container emptied the same day or within one business day of your call. Garbage and recycling containers should be placed at the curb the night before your scheduled pickup day. Unfortunately, we are unable to make a second trip to your location when containers are not placed at the curb by 6:00 am on the pickup day.

Every deposit accrues 6% interest (annually) during the time it is held by the Town of Apex. Deposits are held until a good credit history has been established. 

Residential Deposits

Good credit for a residential customer is defined as 12 months with no more than 2 late payments. 

Commercial Deposits

Good credit for a commercial customer is defined as 24 months with no more than 2 late payments per year.  

Refunding

Deposits are eligible for refunding after a customer has established good credit with the Town. Refunds are not automatic, the customer must request a refund. Refunds (deposit plus interest) are applied to the utility account and any remaining credit may stay on the account to cover future charges or it may be refunded by check. If a deposit is held on an account at the time services are terminated, the deposit and interest will be applied to the unpaid balance and a refund check issued for the remainder. 

We're pleased to be able to offer the following options to our customers:

• Bank drafting is available. Sign up and have your payment automatically deducted from your bank account each month on the bill due date. An authorization form is available for download

• Check or money order payments can be mailed in our return envelope to the address indicated on the payment stub. If you are unable to include our payment stub please remit to P O Box 250, Apex, NC  27502. 
  
  
• A payment drop box is located at 73 Hunter Street. Payments put in the drop box after 8:00 am will be processed the next business day. Please do not put cash payments in drop box. 
  
  
• MasterCard and Visa payments are accepted in the Utilities and Finance office located at 73 Hunter Street or by calling (919) 362-8676 Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  

• Online payments are accepted through Official Payments, a third party service. Official payments will charge a $5.95 convenience fee for each payment transaction. This fee goes directly to Official Payments and has no relationship to any utility billing charges. Official Payments accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.

• Cash payments are accepted in the Utilities and Finance Department located at 73 Hunter Street Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Once a Utility Application has been completed and the deposit requirements satisfied, your services can be connected as early as the next business day. If you need utility services for a future date just specify the date on your application and we’ll be glad to start your services as requested. If services are needed the same day, please let us know and we will make every effort to accommodate your request. We do not connect utility services on weekends or holidays.

You may complete an online disconnection request or call the Utilities and Finance Department at (919) 362-8676 Monday – Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. We are unable to disconnect utility services on weekends or holidays.
