Newest Section of Peakway Complete

Apex, NC – The newest section of the Apex Peakway is schedule to open for travel next week. The roadway is now complete between Laura Duncan Road and Old Raleigh Road.

“We are excited to open this new portion of the Apex Peakway,” said Apex Mayor Keith Weatherly. “This route will enable drivers to bypass congestion in the Central Business District and avoid the majority of the train traffic, and give our citizens an easier method to reach the major thoroughfares of SR 1010, Old Raleigh, Laura Duncan, Salem Street, Hwy 55, Olive Chapel Rd and Old US 1.”

Construction on this part of the Peakway began in August 2011, and concludes with a ribbon cutting ceremony planned for next Wednesday, December 14th at 1:45pm, located near its intersection with Laura Duncan Road.

The 1,100 foot section of road, built by Barnhill Contracting Company, cost $650,000 to complete. The project was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.

The only two remaining gaps in the Peakway loop are between Tingen Road and Old US 1 and between NC 55 and Schiefflin Road. These sections will be constructed as development occurs in those areas and/or as future Town projects.
