Apex, NC – During fall and spring soccer and baseball seasons, Apex Jaycee Park is alive with the sounds of cracking bats and referee whistles. Until now, the park has held little activity in the off-season.
Next Friday, August 26th, the town will unveil a brand new amenity at the park, featuring playground equipment on a rubber bonded surface and a shaded area with benches and a picnic table. The playground was specifically designed for children ages 2-5.
“The timing is perfect for a new amenity at Jaycee Park,” stated Angela Reincke, Chairperson of Citizens for Apex Parks. “With fall athletic programs starting and families at the park daily this playground will be well utilized. Contributions making this playground available are such a great reward to our youngest citizens.”
The playground was built at no cost to Apex taxpayers after Mayor pro tem Bryan Gossage worked to secure contributions from two companies with local operations. Nearly $20,000 from Motiva Enterprises covered the expense of the entire playground structure and surface. Sam’s Club of Morrisville donated $1,200 for safety fencing and shade trees.
“In a few short months, a community dream has become a reality for generations of children,” said Ken Watson, Motiva’s North Carolina Complex Manager. “The citizens have such vision for the park system. On behalf of the employees, I thank the Citizens for Apex Parks for allowing us to partner with them to make this piece of their vision realized.”
Residents are invited to the park located at 451 W. Williams Street on August 26th at 10am for a ribbon-cutting and parents are encouraged to bring their children to enjoy the new playground and some tasty snacks.
"This is a generous gift to our community and this playground is a welcome addition for so many Apex families who use this park," Gossage said.
