Apex "Donate a Flag" Program a Success

July 1, 2011

APEX, NC – Apex residents demonstrated their patriotism in a big way over the past two weeks. The Town received an overwhelming response shortly after its “Donate-A-Flag” program was launched in mid-June.

War veterans, men and women currently serving their country, a local well-known family physician, and even a third grade class were all honored by the donation of American flags to replace the ones hanging along Salem Street.

The new flags were mounted just in time for Monday’s Olde Fashioned Fourth of July celebration in downtown Apex.  The flags removed will be disposed of properly in a traditional ceremony by local Boy Scouts.

The names of each donor, the person or people recognized, and the reason for the donation are all posted on the Town's website and printed in weekly editions of the Apex Herald.

"The appreciation people expressed for their town, their fellow citizens, our soldiers and our nation was moving," said Apex Mayor pro tem Bryan Gossage, who initiated the program. "I am proud to be a part of a community that so eagerly responded to the opportunity to recognize the contributions and sacrifices of others."
