Apex Automation Firm to Double Operations Facility, Add Jobs

November 2, 2011

Apex, NC – ATI Industrial Automation will break ground tomorrow on an expansion project that will double the size of its manufacturing and inventory space at their Apex headquarters. The expansion will allow for the addition of up to 50 more employees, adding to the 150 employees currently working at the site.

ATI, founded in 1989, moved to Apex in 2001, and employs Engineers, Designers, and highly skilled electronic and mechanical assemblers. Half of their products are used in the automotive industry, while the other half is spread among several industries including Biomedical, Electronic, and Research.

“We are pleased ATI has chosen to expand their current facilities in Apex, and are gratified they have found long term success in our community,” stated Apex Mayor Keith Weatherly. “The 150 employees they have currently and the 50 more to come will add great value to our current employment base. We wish them the best and offer any assistance we can to ensure their future success.”

According to ATI CEO Keith Morris, they located to Apex in 2001 because of its central location, reasonable labor, raw land, housing costs and proximity to RDU International Airport.

“We are extremely proud of the success we have experienced in Apex,” said Morris. “Our hope is to continue to manufacture innovative products that have a positive impact on the industries we serve. We have greatly enjoyed our time in Apex and look forward to many years of continued growth and prosperity.”

Apex Town Councilman and Economic Development Chair, Bill Jensen noted “The type of highly skilled employees at ATI and the high tech equipment they produce is just a glimpse of the future high tech jobs we hope to retain and recruit to Apex.”

Eighty percent of the parts ATI uses are made by suppliers in North Carolina. All their products are assembled, tested in and shipped from Apex. They create products for NASA and University research laboratories for various uses, including space program applications.
