Public Works Computer Recycling

As an additional service to its residential recycling customers the Town of Apex will now recycle old computers that are dropped off at the Public Works and Utilities facility located at 105 Upchurch Street between the hours of 8:00 - 5:00. Residents will be asked to give their name and address before the Town will accept the equipment.

The program will accept computers from Apex residential recycling customers only. NO BUSINESSES PLEASE.

This service covers monitors, cords, processing units, speakers, keyboards, mice, printers, scanners, copiers, fax machines, and other computer parts. The computers will be taken to Wake County's multi-material facility at the North Wake Landfill location. Computers that are in working condition can be donated to local charities as a tax deductible contribution. Options for recycling or for disposing of old computers including procedures for donating computers to charitable organizations can be found by clicking on this link to a comprehensive report from Wake County.

While the Town does not have a program to recycle computers from businesses, Wake County has a drop off facility at the North Wake Landfill location. They accept residential computers from county residents for free. Commercial businesses will be charged $5 per monitor and there will be a minimum charge of $5 per commercial load for other equipment if there is no monitor. See the Wake County Multi-Material Drop-Off Facilities website for more information.

Some computer manufacturers offer take back programs usually for a fee. Contact the following manufacturers to recycle your old computer.

There are also other options for recycling or for disposing of old computers such as donations to charitable organizations listed in a report from Wake County.
