Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources White Oak Stream Restoration and Greenway Project

The Town’s of Apex and Cary are working on a joint greenway and stream restoration project involving the white oak creek located in the Town of Apex’s northwest planning area. The Town of Cary is serving as the coordinating agency for the project through a $282,700 USDA Grant they received for the project. The current phase of the project is for planning only and currently involves no actual construction. The intent of the project is to preserve and protect the White Oak Creek as well as preserve and protect natural habitats in the area. The stream restoration portion of the project is being undertaken by Buck Engineering, Raleigh, NC and the greenway trail portion of the project is being directed by Haden-Stanziale, PA, Wilmington, NC. The greenway trail portion of the project involves planning for a future connection between the Town of Cary’s White Oak Creek Greenway and the American Tobacco Trail. The first of two public meetings regarding this project was held May 9th at the Apex Town Hall. The second, and final, public meeting will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, July 13th and tentatively will be held at the Greenlevel Baptist Church.
