The current Parks, Recreation, Greenways and Open Space Master Plan was approved by the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Advisory Commission on October 10th, 2001 and formally adopted by the Town Council on November 20th , 2001. Its adoption culminated over 6 months of special meetings, telephone and written surveys, and face to face interviews to ascertain the community's concerns and opinions about direction that they wanted the Town to take. The projects included in the proposed Bond Referendum are a direct result of the priorities recommended by the Advisory Commission and adopted by the Town Council as a result of the plan.
From a regional perspective, the plan was coordinated with surrounding municipalities with regards to greenway connections and as well as with Wake County Parks , Recreation, and Open Space. Issues such as water quality, open space preservation, and environmental protection were also part of the adopted plan as was the adoption of a clear set of Goals and Objectives for the Town in its provision of leisure services. Copies of the adopted plan can be purchased for $26.50 by contacting the Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources Department at 249-3419.
