The following guidelines must be STRICTLY adhered to:

• No bonfire shall be kindled or maintained closer than fifty (50) feet to any structure.
• The bonfire shall be constantly attended by a competent person until extinguished.
• There shall be a readily available garden hose attached to a water supply.
• There shall be a readily available fire extinguisher with at least a 2A:10BC (5 pound ABC dry chemical extinguisher) rating.

The person in charge of the bonfire shall call the fire department communications division at (919) 362-8661 at least three (3) hours before the bonfire is to be kindled and advise that a fire inspector has inspected and approved the bonfire site. Please call the Fire Marshal at (919) 249-1032 to schedule an inspection of the Bonfire. Another call is to be made when the bonfire is extinguished.

The fire official may prohibit or require to be extinguished any bonfire when atmospheric conditions or local circumstances make such a fire hazardous, as determined by the fire official.
