Mission Statement:

“The Apex Fire Department will proudly and continuously protect life, property, and the environment from fire, medical emergencies, natural disasters, and other emergencies for those who live, work, and travel in and through the Town of Apex and surrounding districts with competent, professional, and honest personnel."

fireThe Apex Fire Department has 3 fire stations, located on North Salem Street, Hunter Street, and New-Hill Holleman Road in New Hill.

Fire personnel are assigned to one of 3 shifts that work 24-hour rotations. Each shift has 7 full-time personnel, as well as part-time firefighters who work Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., excluding holidays.

The Fire Chief, Fire Marshal and Fire Inspector work a 40-hour work week. We also have a full-time Administrative Specialist and a Staffing Specialist.

In addition to the paid personnel, there are also approximately 40 volunteers.

Whether paid or volunteer, our highly qualified, professional personnel are trained in a wide variety of fire, rescue, and EMS specialties. In addition to the usual fire suppression duties, the Fire Department also responds to a number of other emergency calls. Many staff members are trained in several specialized areas:

The department is also a Basic Life Support provider. Many members are certified medical personnel, some of which have received advanced medical training and certifications. The Fire Department responds with Apex EMS on all life-threatening emergencies.

The Fire Department also sponsors an Explorer Post for individuals between the ages of 14 and 18. These future firefighters participate with the Fire Department in training exercises and play an important support role in emergency situations. The program is a great opportunity for younger citizens to get an early start on learning how to handle emergencies.

The “Firebelles” are the Fire Department’s dedicated support organization. They play a vital role during emergency situations by providing food, drinks, and other necessities, as well as sponsoring many fundraisers and social events.

The Apex Fire Department also offers an extensive fire prevention/education program. On average, fire personnel make contact with over 3,000 people annually. Station tours are available upon request.

Local individuals who may be interested in becoming a volunteer may contact us at 919-362-4001 or stop by the Hunter Street station to pick up an application.
