Town staff responded to a sewer spill on the afternoon of October 8th on White Oak Pond Drive, caused by a blocked pipe. An amount estimated to be greater than 1,000 gallons reached an unnamed tributary of White Oak Creek. The blocked pipe has been cleared, and clean up of the area has been completed.
As required by law, additional notification has been made to the State Division of Water Resources, who will review the incident. North Carolina General Statues require public notice in the form of a news release issued by public works operators within 24 hours of the detection of a wastewater overflow of 1,000 gallons or greater that also reaches surface waters.
