Celebrate America’s Birthday on Salem Street with family activities including giant inflatables, a rock climbing wall, carnival games, and food and street vendors. At noon, children 12 and under may join Uncle Sam’s Parade of Wheels for a trip down Salem Street.

Aquatic Wildlife

Ages 10+. Students will classify fish according to color and body shape, and will design various aquatic habitats to learn about the adaptations that help fish survive. Students will also learn about the life cycle of turtles, how pollution affects fish and turtles, and ways to help these animals survive. Supplies are included.

Ages 8+. Learn about wetland conservation and general outdoor ethics, as well as the characteristics of wetlands, for identifying the value of wetlands to wildlife and people. Students will use every day objects to learn about the natural function of wetlands. Supplies are included.

Night Trail Hike

Ages 8+. Go on a night hike with park staff and learn about the night wildlife that live in parks. Learn about nocturnal animals and how they live in the day versus night. Identify owls, bats, crickets, frogs, and other animals we see and hear at night. Bring a flashlight and be prepared to find some of these critters!

Rock and Mineral ID

Ages 6+. Learn how rocks are formed, the key differences between rocks and minerals, rock types (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary), and properties of minerals. Class will be hands-on and students will be able to investigate rock/mineral samples and identify the differences and similarities. Supplies are included.

Ages 11+. Learn all about water and how it works! Investigate how water moves through the soil, learn about how much freshwater really is in the world (it’s probably less than you think). Learn where water comes from and how easy it is to pollute. Students will leave knowing ways in which they can help keep our water safe and healthy. Supplies are included.
